AMERI Plant Renaming: ‘Give birth’ if you enjoy naming ceremonies – Akufo-Addo told

Deputy Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malika Basintale has told the President of Ghana that if he enjoys naming ceremonies he should as well give birth.

According to him, the President cannot go around renaming projects and programmes that have been already commissioned by his predecessor.

Rather, he should also look at a need of the people, work on it and give it the name he wants to give to the project.

Basintale was speaking on Accra-based TV3 when he made this known.

“President Akufo-Addo got to UDS, you didn’t give the people of Wa a University the people of Wa will accept a new university if they are given one yet you decided to rename the existing university, the people of UNER, President Mahama gave them an Energy University yet you got up and went and renamed it with some funny name and you did same with UHAS.

All I’m saying is that if you want to conduct naming ceremonies, give birth. Learn to go there, learn to give them projects and learn to name them. Don’t go about commissioning projects that your predecessor has commissioned, projects that President Mahama has brought into force, Commissioning projects that are not going to bring any value,” he said on TV3.

The President was in the Ashanti region to commission the Kumasi 1 Power Thermal Power Plant.

This was pursuant to a policy decision in 2022, to establish a power generation enclave in Anwomaso- Kumasi, to improve the reliability and quality of power supply in Kumasi for the middle belt and the northern parts of the country.

This move is part of efforts to fight the intermittent power outages the country is currently struggling with.
