Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections, made a passionate appeal to Ghana’s youth during his recent “Bawumia for Jobs” event in Accra on Sunday, November 3.
Speaking directly to the next generation, Bawumia emphasized that if elected president, he would place young Ghanaians at the forefront of governance and decision-making. His promise centered on building a government that not only listens to youth voices but actively incorporates their ideas into policies shaping the nation’s future.
“True to my quest for inclusivity, I want to ensure that the specific needs of young people are sufficiently addressed by my government if given the mandate,” Bawumia declared. “Because I see that as vital if we are serious about making a difference in the long term.” With a clear vision for inclusivity, he pledged to empower Ghana’s youth as active participants in national development, not merely as spectators on the political sidelines.
Dr. Bawumia’s vision speaks to the aspirations of Ghana’s Millennials and Generation Z, who have long sought greater opportunities to influence policies impacting their lives. He assured the crowd that if elected, his administration would work to create avenues for young people to engage in “formal political processes,” thus fostering a more responsive government.
“My goal is to lead a government that makes our young people a positive force for change that they themselves seek and the nation desires,” he stated, underscoring his intent to establish a collaborative relationship with the youth. By addressing their needs and ambitions, Bawumia believes Ghana can harness the energy, innovation, and potential of its young population to drive meaningful progress.
Extending a personal invitation, he urged, “I therefore invite the youth, especially the Gen Zs, to join me in this journey of possibility; I have a place for you.” This appeal to young Ghanaians reflects his understanding of the critical role they play in shaping the country’s future and the need for policies that resonate with their goals.
