You have no right to sack a public servant because of strike –  Kofi Jumah told

The former Secretary for the Convention  People’s Party  (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has descended heavily on the Managing Director of GIHOC, Maxwell Kofi Jumah after he threatened to sack staff who embarked on the strike to fight against galamsey.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s NewDay monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Nana Yaa Jantuah chastised Kofi Jumah for trampling on the rights of his staff by threatening them over the strike.

According to Nana Yaa Jantuah, Kofi Jumah should be one of the people in Ghana worried about the current situation of the water bodies since his company uses water as a base for the alcoholic beverages they produce.

“Workers have the right to strike because it’s their human right in the Labour Act. So he can’t wake up and say he will sack any staff who joins the strike. Anyone who speaks like that doesn’t respect Ghanaians.”

“His company, GIHOC is at risk because the base of what he is producing is water. So he must be more concerned and be with the people on the street fighting against galamsey”, she disclosed.

Recounting the NDC and John Mahama era, Nana Yaa Jantuah disclosed that the former President was hit with 15 strikes and demonstrations but he did not stop any of them because it was the constitutional rights of the citizens.

She slammed Kofi Jumah for using his power to intimidate his staff and also trampling on their human rights.

It would be recalled that Kofi Jumah made headlines a few days ago after he stated bluntly during an interview on Oyerepa FM on Tuesday, October 8 that he will sack any worker of his company who joins the strike action by Organized labour.

According to him, the strike by Organized Labour does not align with the company’s regulations, and therefore, he would not support any staff involvement.
