Thomas Partey's return boosts Ghana's hopes in 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has made a timely return to the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, ahead of their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Partey, who has an impressive record of seven goals in eight World Cup qualifiers, has not featured for the Black Stars since October 2023, when he captained the team in international friendly matches against the USA and Mexico.

The 30-year-old's return to the national fold comes on the back of a consistent run of performances for Arsenal in their last 12 league matches. His experience and goal-scoring prowess will be vital for Ghana as they aim to navigate their way through the third and fourth rounds of the qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars will first face Mali on June 6, 2024, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako. Four days later, they will return to home soil to take on the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Ghana's qualifying campaign got off to a stuttering start, with a narrow 1-0 win over Madagascar in Kumasi being followed by a 1-0 defeat to Comoros. As a result, they currently find themselves in fourth place in Group I, three points behind leaders Comoros.

With Partey back in the mix, Ghana will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and make a strong push for a place in the 2026 World Cup, which is set to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the USA.
