One of the traders, identified as Esther Baafour Guyimah, who was removed from selling at the Flower Pot Interchange by a task force under the instructions of Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has expressed deep frustration over the recent development.
In an interview with Channel One TV, she revealed that before the Flower Pot project was completed, traders had been promised by the Accra Municipal Assembly that spaces under the bridges would be allocated for them to sell their goods.
According to her, after being relocated from the main pavements, the Accra Municipal Assembly assured them that designated areas would be provided for them to continue their businesses. However, she lamented that upon the completion of the interchange, the promised spaces were instead transformed into a mini garden, with various types of flowers planted.
“They have destroyed all our tables and containers that we used for selling. We are pleading with the government to allocate a portion of space under the bridge for us to sell our goods. We don’t mind paying taxes on a weekly or monthly basis,” she said, clearly distressed by the turn of events.
During the commissioning of the newly inaugurated Flower Pot Interchange on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly developed infrastructure.
Titus-Glover called on both residents and municipal authorities to ensure the upkeep of the interchange, stressing the need for order and cleanliness around the area. He specifically warned against the proliferation of kiosks and containers, which, he noted, could detract from the interchange’s visual appeal and efficiency.
“We all share the responsibility to maintain and use these resources wisely. In this light, I urge the municipal assemblies, particularly Ledzorkuku and Ayawaso West Wuogon, to ensure that this area remains clean,” Titus-Glover said during the commissioning ceremony.
