Fitness enthusiast Rosalin Umar has shared insights into her views on social media and the concept of friendship during an episode of Nedu Wazobia’s Honest Brunch podcast, monitored by MyNewsGh.

Despite being a public figure, she admitted her limited engagement with platforms like Instagram, emphasizing that she only learned about the app’s spelling in late July.

“I didn’t know what Instagram was,” she confessed. “I only knew the spelling. I wasn’t active on social media, but the one thing I insisted on was replying to every single comment.

“I love reading, so I always took the time to engage with people, but everything else—trends, news, updates—I didn’t know anything about it.”

Her approach to social media reflects a strong sense of boundaries. While many people are immersed in the endless scroll of Instagram and Twitter, Rosalin chooses to maintain a more grounded connection by interacting with her followers in a way that aligns with her personal values.

When the conversation shifted to friendship, Rosalin drew a line between acquaintances and genuine friends.

Reflecting on her 70+ years of life, she shared that she doesn’t count more than 10-15 true friends. She values authentic relationships over social circles that only come together for events or parties.

“90% of people we call friends aren’t really friends; they’re acquaintances,” she said. “I have very few people I can genuinely call my friends, people who have stuck by me through the years, who I’ve shared significant life moments with.”
