Nana Agyakumhene I, the Hweduemhene of Mampong, praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, for his transformative leadership and its visible positive impact on the Mampong community.

His comments came during a local event in Mampong, where he spoke about the tangible improvements seen in the area, attributing much of the progress to the government’s initiatives under Bawumia’s leadership.

“Dr. Bawumia’s leadership has done so much for this community. The roads are better, and the overall development of Mampong has been significant,” Nana Agyakumhene I noted.

While he refrained from engaging directly in partisan politics, as traditional leaders are expected to do, he made it clear that his praise for the current government was based on the undeniable progress made in his community. “I am not involved in party politics, but when a government does something good for our people, it’s only right to recognize it,” he added.

Nana also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the District Chief Executive (DCE), whose collaboration with the national government has been instrumental in achieving these changes.

He acknowledged that while local chiefs are often restricted from supporting political parties publicly, the exceptional developments in Mampong compelled him to make an exception.

He did not shy away from highlighting key policies that have had a lasting effect on the well-being of the people in his community.

One such policy was the National Health Insurance Scheme, which was initiated under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Nana Agyakumhene I noted how the scheme had helped many expectant mothers and families gain access to much-needed healthcare, praising its continued impact.

However, the chief reserved his strongest endorsement for the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which he believes has been the most transformative initiative under the NPP government. “The Free SHS policy is a landmark achievement. It has opened doors to education for many children who would not have had the opportunity otherwise. I believe this is something that should continue,” he said.
