Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), a much respected Education Policy Research and Advocacy Organization, Kofi Asare, has said that the new method adopted by the Ghana Education Service for posting teachers to public basic schools in the country will ensure an equitable distribution of teachers, meaning that rural schools that regularly struggle to get teachers will be well-served.
The Teacher Self-Posting Module allows teachers to log into a website having all the basic schools and post themselves to schools where their services are needed and where there are vacancies.
Given that most schools in urban areas are fully staffed, some of them even overstaffed, the schools available to the unemployed teachers are largely those in rural and deprived communities which are in dire need of qualified teachers. It therefore means that to get employed, one must choose a school where they are really needed.
Reacting to the new module, Mr Kofi Asare is optimistic that if the system is not tampered with, it could be a game changer for the equitable distribution of teachers across the country, describing it as a great initiative.
“The new GES Teacher Self-Posting Module, If allowed to function without interference, will be the Game Changer for Teacher Posting Equity in Basic Schools. Great Initiative!” He asserted.
The Ghana Education Service(GES) introduced the Self Posting Module this year for the first batch of degree holders from colleges of education in the country to apply for employment.
