The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has unveiled exciting news as rising stars Israel Aklie and Juanita Borteye gear up for a groundbreaking journey to the 2024 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Hopes Week and Challenge in Asunción, Paraguay.

Scheduled from 1-7 November, this prestigious event marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian table tennis.

Aklie and Borteye will embark on their journey following an intensive three-day training camp in Egypt from 26-29 October, alongside their peers from across Africa.

The duo’s selection is a testament to their exceptional talent and recent achievements.

Aklie secured his place after triumphing over nine opponents in the African qualifiers, while both players impressed at the 2024 ITTF Africa Senior Championships in Addis Ababa, reaching the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event.

Cynthia Kwabi, Borteye’s mentor and women’s doubles partner at the 2024 ITTF Africa Senior Championships, will guide the Ghanaian contingent.

Under her tutelage, the young athletes are poised to make history as the first representatives from Ghana at the ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge.

The ITTF Sports Development’s flagship event will gather up to 40 talented youngsters (20 boys, 20 girls) and their coaches worldwide, fostering a week of intensive training and spirited competition.
