The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has unveiled the nomination committee for its 49th Awards.
The committee, consisting of seven members, will be chaired by Kenneth Odeng Adade, an editor at the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
The committee’s role will be to review and nominate exceptional talent across various sports categories, including football, athletics, boxing, and tennis, among others.
The other members of the committee are Maurice Quansah, Gabriel Obu, Bright Yeboah Taylor, Yaw Kyei Baffour, Mohammed Shaban, and Matilda Dimedo, who will serve as secretary.
All members are well-regarded sports journalists, industry experts, and notable personalities.
Nominees for the awards will be announced in December, with the ceremony scheduled to take place on 24 January 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah expressed enthusiasm about the committee’s formation, stating. “We are delighted to assemble this committee, comprising distinguished individuals who share our passion for sports excellence.”
“Their expertise will ensure a comprehensive and impartial nomination process, reflecting the best of Ghanaian sports. We are confident that their efforts will result in a well-deserving list of nominees for the 49th SWAG Awards.”
Yeboah further highlighted the importance of the nomination process, remarking, “The SWAG Awards have been a benchmark for sports excellence in Ghana for nearly five decades. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards, and this nomination committee will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and credibility of the awards.”‘
