This week has been a whirlwind of sporting drama, with historic feats, disappointing exits and moments that will be replayed for years.

From Oleksandr Usyk and Manchester City making history to the Black Starlets impressive start to the WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations, here is a roundup of the most captivating sports storylines of the week:

Heavyweight History: Usyk claims undisputed crown in epic fight

Oleksandr Usyk cemented his place in boxing’s hall of fame on Saturday night (18 May), defeating Tyson Fury in a dramatic split-decision victory to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era (established in 2007).

The Ukrainian southpaw (22-0, 14 KOs) dethroned “The Gypsy King” (34-1, 24 KOs) at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, handing Fury his first professional loss after 16 years. Usyk now joins the ranks of legendary undisputed champions like Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali.

This victory also marks another historic moment, with Usyk becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis’ reign in November 1999.
