Speak Out Against Tendencies that Threaten Peace – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has urged traditional leaders to speak out against issues that could jeopardise the  peace in the country, ahead of the impending December 7 general elections.

Addressing NDC supporters at Mpohor Manso as part of her three-day campaign tour of the  Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised the need by the Electoral Commission to put the right structures in place to ensure free, fair, transparent and credible elections.

“When you are going into an election and you are very sure that the right structures have been put in place to ensure fairness among the contesting candidates, whatever outcome you get, you are compelled to accept it. But when it becomes clear that there is no level playing field, then the outcome becomes contentious”, she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the NDC is committed to peaceful elections and it is imperative that traditional leaders and other opinion leaders speak out against issues and tendencies that threaten free and fair elections.

She said the NPP after failing in government now brags about having many ways and means to win the impending general elections. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said credible elections are not won on the basis of crooked ways and means.

She said December 7 presents an opportunity for the people of Ghana to rescue the country from the failure of the government and the hardship facing the people by voting for the NDC’s flagbearer, Mr John Dramani Mahama.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said Mr Mahama will reset the country and provide jobs through his  24-Hour Economy, the establishment of Women’s Development Bank and the rollout of a  National Apprenticeship programme, among others.
