The Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, has dismissed claims made by Dr Bawumia’s aide, Kofi Tonto, who alleged that the Returning Officer for Tema Central was coerced into making an illegal declaration for the NDC.
Speaking during a panel discussion on TV3, Lawyer Tamakloe firmly rejected Tonto’s assertions that the Returning Officer, who had reportedly written to the NDC headquarters claiming she had been threatened, was coerced.
“The Returning Officer for Tema Central was not a woman, and it is impossible that a lady was coerced in this manner,” Edudzi stated confidently. “The Returning Officer for Tema Central was Akwasi Brobbey.”
Lawyer Tamakloe further clarified that the individual behind the letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah, was not the Returning Officer but rather the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey.
He criticized Ashitey for writing to the EC, asserting that the Tema Metro boss had no right to engage the Commission in this manner.
In his defence of NDC members Sam George, Hanna Bissiw, Malik Basintale, and Dafeamekpor, Edudzi explained that these individuals had visited the regional coalition center because prominent NPP members, including Afenyo Markin, Frank Davis, Fred Oware, and Peter Mac-Manu, were also present.
