Controversial singer Portable is reportedly on the run following a police raid on his Ogun State establishment, Odogwu Bar, which led to the arrest of nine of his associates.
The arrests were connected to an incident where town planning officials were allegedly assaulted while attempting to seal off an unapproved building linked to the singer.
The suspects were arraigned before the Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, facing charges that included assault, obstruction, armed violence, and conduct likely to incite public disorder. They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail, with the case set for further hearing in March.
Following the incident, Portable took to social media to express frustration over the sealing of his property, accusing authorities of unfairly targeting his business.
He claimed that over 20 individuals, including customers and artists, were arrested, and various personal belongings such as vehicles, bikes, and phones were confiscated.
According to him, his establishment is more than just a bar; it serves as a space for hosting events and supporting up-and-coming artists.
In a related development, Portable was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command after he failed to comply with a 72-hour ultimatum to surrender himself in connection with an alleged assault, as per a police invitation. In the early hours of Monday, 3 April 2023, Portable was charged in the Ifo High Court in Ogun State.
