Physically challenged cobbler killed in accident on Sunyani-Abesim Highway

A physically challenged cobbler, believed to be in his 30s, tragically lost his life on Saturday when a private saloon car ran over him along the Sunyani-Abesim highway.

According to a GNA report, the deceased, popularly known in the area as “Connection,” had gone to collect a phone charger from a friend and was on his way home when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck him.

The incident occurred near the Oti Yeboah Company Limited (OYCL) section of the road. When the GNA arrived at the scene around 15:30 hours, police officers were present to retrieve the body, while bystanders, who had covered it with leaves, discussed the accident.

His mobile phone, crutches, slippers, and phone charger lay behind his body.

Bystanders informed the GNA that the driver believed to be in his 70s, had reported himself to the Abesim police station and was in custody, assisting with investigations.

An eyewitness, Kwabena Yeboah, told the GNA that the crash occurred around 15:00 hours when the driver lost control, veered off the road, and sent people, including food vendors, running for their lives.

However, the deceased, who had a right leg amputation, was unable to escape and was fatally struck by the vehicle.
