President Akufo-Addo is expected to meet with organised labour ahead of their planned nationwide strike, government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has said.
Labour unions on Tuesday (1 October) declared a nationwide strike effective 10 October, to register their displeasure over the government’s inaction against illegal mining also known as galamsey.
The unions had earlier given the government up till the end of September to address the illegal mining menace.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (3 October), Boakye-Danquah said he is optimistic labour unions will call off their impending strike.
”The president would be meeting with the leaders of organised labour… Cabinet is going to be having a meeting and I’m very certain as well that the issues bordering on illegal mining are going to be a major topic that will be discussed,” he said.
”I’m very certain that the nationwide strike that organised labour is seeking to have from the 10 October would be cancelled because the government is going to respond with clear directives of what we want to do in addressing these issues,” he added.
