Accommodation for teachers at the second-cycle institutions continues to be a major challenge, especially at the St. Louis Senior High School.
However, authorities at the all-girls school can heave a sigh of relief as the Otumfuo Foundation spearheads the construction of a four-unit-bedroom staff quarters.
The project is funded by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited and will enhance supervision as well as improve work-life balance.
At a brief sod-cutting ceremony on Monday (16 September) a senior staff member of the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd., Ibrahim Buabeng, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting government initiatives through various development projects.
Buabeng highlighted that the company has successfully undertaken 117 projects in recent times, which include a ten-unit teachers’ bungalow in Asante Mampong, eight in Daho, and astroturfs in Asokwa and Oforikrom. Additionally, the company has contributed to several other school infrastructure projects in Asokwa, furthering its goal of enhancing community development across the country.
“We’re pleased as a company to be associated with this particular programme. This is one of the programs we undertake as one of our corporate social responsibilities. When Ghana Gas sponsors a program we commence, we complete it within the structured time”, he added.
The Headmistress of St. Louis Senior High School, Ama Kyerewa Benefo expressed her gratitude to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the timely intervention.
She however appealed to all stakeholders to support the expansion of housing facilities to accommodate more teachers in the school as the limited number of resident teachers makes it difficult to effectively manage and supervise the students.
For his part, the Board Chair at Otumfuo Foundation and Otumfuo Hiahene, Prof. Oheneba Boakye Woahene II, described the collaboration as the “epitome of private-public-traditional partnership.”
He emphasised the foundation’s dedication to enhancing quality education in Ghana through infrastructure development, training programs, and scholarships.
However, he also highlighted the critical need for proper maintenance to ensure the longevity of the infrastructure and its continued benefit to future generations.
