A tragic fire outbreak at Stadium Junction in Bongobiri, Obuasi, on the morning of December 13, 2024, has left two people dead and several others injured.

The devastating incident, which occurred around 10:45 a.m., involved a two-story building and an adjacent garage, resulting in significant property damage, including the destruction of 13 vehicles.

The Obuasi District Police, supported by personnel from various units, promptly responded to the distress call, working to protect lives and property.

The situation escalated, prompting assistance from the AGA Mines Fire Service team and the Fomena Fire Service team. Together, they managed to bring the raging fire under control and disperse a crowd of over 500 onlookers who had gathered at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder while a welder was working on a vehicle.

The explosion triggered a chain reaction, spreading flames to the building’s ground floor, where a car electrical parts shop was located. The fire rapidly engulfed the structure and the vehicles in the garage.

The owner of the building, identified as Kwame Disco, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to AGA Hospital for treatment.

Other victims were treated at various medical facilities, including Obuasi Government Hospital, St. Jude Hospital, and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The two fatalities have been transported to the Obuasi Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Meanwhile, workers and owners of the destroyed vehicles have been advised to report to the police station for further assistance.
