Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has assured Yaa Naa Bukali Mahama II of the commitment of the NPP to strengthen the Chieftaincy Institution.
According to him, the NPP under the leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is aware of the role chiefs play in the administration and it is imperative that they are provided with the needed support to make their work effective.
Napo as he is affectionately called made this known when he visited the Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace.
He used the opportunity to “emphasize that the NPP is a harmonious blend of individuals united beyond religion and ethnicity, embodying national cohesion and inclusivity. This, is what we present to the Ghanaian people”.
His post shared via social media after the visit read “I visited the revered Yaa Naa Bukali Mahama II, Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi. This visit was to seek his prayers, blessings, and wise counsel.
During our discussion, I shared our foundational story- a party rooted in unity, established with the support and active involvement of chiefs from the northern, southern, middle, and coastal regions who joined forces to form the United Party, later to become the New Patriotic Party. The NPP thus, holds a deep respect for the chieftaincy institution, and my boss, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and I are dedicated to deepening its rightful place in nation-building.
I emphasized that the NPP is a harmonious blend of individuals united beyond religion and ethnicity, embodying national cohesion and inclusivity. This, is what we present to the Ghanaian people.
