The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the deployment of its personnel to designated locations to support the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a statement issued on Friday (6 December 2024), the GAF reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm if military personnel are seen in their localities.
The statement emphasised that no military personnel would be stationed at polling stations. Instead, their role will be limited to standby support, with the Ghana Police Service taking primary responsibility for election security.
GAF clarified that military personnel will only be deployed upon request by the police, highlighting a collaborative approach to maintain peace, law, and order during the elections.
The statement further urged Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid any actions that could disrupt the electoral process.
