The Oti regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC) says it is ready to deliver free, fair, credible, and transparent elections on 7 December 2024.
Speaking to Asaase News, Nuhu Mahama said all materials and equipment had been distributed to the constituencies across the Oti region, waiting tomorrow for a peaceful and violence-free smooth process.
Projectors, computers, biometric verification devices, ballot papers, ballot boxes, stamp pads, and thump printer pads were among the supplies.
“All our materials and equipment have been distributed in adequate quantities with the hope that all registered voters will come out in their numbers to cast their ballots tomorrow.” He said.
A total of 410,607 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots tomorrow in all nine constituencies of the Oti region, including Guan constituency.
Mahama charged the officers to abide by the principles of fairness and transparency and “count the votes accurately and fill out the forms professionally” to reflect the will of the people.
Nuhu encouraged first-time voters and the youth to actively participate in the elections by going out to cast their ballots on Saturday in their numbers.
He urged Ghanians to conduct themselves well and ensure peace and coexistence among them even before, during, and after the election.
He also appealed to the Ghana police service to ensure the ballot boxes and other materials are protected.
According to Oti regional director Nuhu Mahama, steps have been taken to guarantee that people with disabilities receive the highest priority and that polling places will be made accessible so they can exercise their right to vote.
He mentioned that the commission has trained staff to assist PWDs during voting.
Meanwhile, there is a high hope for the people of Guan to for the first time have the opportunity to elect a member of parliament to represent them in parliament and bring development to the area.
During the 2020 general election, the people of Guan, though they voted for the presidential candidate, have not been able to elect a member of parliament to represent them .
This, according to them, has negatively affected them, hence leading to poor development in the area.
Among other things, the constituents bemoaned the area’s numerous bad roads, inadequate educational facilities, and absence of a system of drinkable water.
As the electoral commission has now created the Guan constituency, constituents believe that electing their member of parliament will bring a change in the area of development.
The district officer of the electoral commission, Julius Bokor, said a total of 19,651 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots tomorrow within the Guan constituency
However, security agencies have also beefed up their games and are ready to protect lives and properties of Ghanians tomorrow, ensuring that the Oti region cast their ballots in a very conducive and violence-free atmosphere.
