No human being has power over me – Dr. Opuni thanks God after charges dismissed

Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board, Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, expressed deep gratitude to God and his supporters following the dismissal of charges in his long-running trial.

Speaking outside the courtroom after the High Court in Accra discharged him, Dr. Opuni said,

“All power and authority belong to the Almighty God and no human beings. The Living God I serve has disgraced and cured all my enemies, my persecutors, and my destiny destroyers.”

His comments came after State Attorney Enam Mensah, representing the prosecution, informed the court on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, that the Attorney General had directed that the charges be dropped.

This included serious allegations such as defrauding by false pretenses, willfully causing financial loss to the state, and corruption by public officers.

The case, which began in 2018, had been centered around accusations that Dr. Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo caused a financial loss of over GH¢271 million to the state in a series of transactions involving Lithovit foliar fertilizer.

With the charges now officially withdrawn, Dr. Opuni’s faith in God and his resilience throughout the case were evident. As he left the court, he told the gathered crowd, “Thank you for your support. This victory is for all of us.”
