The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun disbursing an additional GHS402 million to health facilities across Ghana.

The agency announced this in a statement dated Wednesday (18 September), stating that the funds cover claims submitted and vetted for June and July, ensuring the NHIA remains within its agreed three-month reimbursement window.

Of the total amount, public health facilities have received GHC223.9 million, representing 56.03%, while private facilities have been allocated GHC106.5 million, or 26.64%. Significant sums were also disbursed to quasi-public and mission health facilities.

“This payment brings the total amount released by the NHIA in recent times (September) to GHC800 million, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),” the statement read.

The NHIA highlighted that the timely disbursement reinforces its dedication to improving claim payment efficiency and ensuring the consistent provision of quality healthcare to NHIS members.

The scheme’s benefit package covers over 95% of disease conditions and includes more than 550 medications.

The NHIA also expressed its appreciation to healthcare providers for their continued service and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing stakeholder concerns and working towards a sustainable and efficient healthcare system.

“The NHIA expresses gratitude to healthcare providers for their dedication and support in delivering quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
