In a recent press conference, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, made serious allegations against the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He accused them of being behind a series of violent incidents across the country, which he claimed were being orchestrated by the opposition party.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the NDC leadership was directly involved in funding and facilitating these acts of violence by providing resources such as fuel and vehicles to their supporters.
“We are aware, and they cannot pretend that they don’t know about this,” Afenyo-Markin declared. He emphasized that it was no longer enough for the NDC to simply issue statements; they needed to take concrete action to stop the violence.
The Majority Leader’s accusations come amid rising tensions in the country as the 2024 general elections approach, with political violence becoming a growing concern.
The NPP leader’s comments highlight the fragile nature of Ghana’s political environment as both major parties are bracing for a fiercely contested election.
Afenyo-Markin’s remarks served as a stark warning to the opposition, calling on them to demonstrate a commitment to peace rather than inflame the situation with violence.
“We will not give them that platform to incite chaos,” he asserted, reiterating the NPP’s commitment to ensuring peaceful elections and protecting the nation’s democracy.
