The Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baah Acheamfour has described the National Peace Council as the most useless institution in Ghana.
The National Peace Council had earlier called on political parties to sign a peace pact for the upcoming 2024 elections as was done in the run-up to the 2020 polls. However, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that the signing of the peace pact suggested by the Peace Council was useless.
According to Asiedu Nketiah, the peace pact signed in 2020 did not lead to peace during the elections with pockets of violence which led to the loss of lives
During an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Baah Acheamfour referred to the chaos that happened during the 2020 elections. He slammed the police service especially the Inspector General of Police for not investigating the killings of 8 people during the 2020 elections.
He lambasted the National Peace Council for not condemning the chaos that happened during the elections but calling on the opposition party to sign a peace pact.
“You want us to sign a peace pact to convince us that the upcoming elections will be free and fair. Meanwhile, the last happenings were not addressed. National Peace Council never commented about the killings of the 8 people during the last elections but they are asking NDC to sign a peace pact again for 2024 elections” said Baah Acheamfour.
