Namibian President, Nangolo Mbumba congratulates new Commonwealth S.C. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
The President of Namibia, Dr Nangolo Mbumba, has congratulated the newly elected Secretary General of the Commonwealth, and Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
Miss Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey was elected as the 7th Secretary General of the Commonwealth at the just-ended Commonwealth Heads of State and Government meeting (CHOGM) held in Apia, Samoa.

In a post on the official Facebook Wall of the Namibian presidency, President Nangolo Mbumba stated in his congratulatory message that he is confident that Miss Botchwey will steer the affairs of the Commonwealth excellently to take the organization to the next level.  

“President Nangolo Mbumba congratulates Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on her Selection as the 7th Secretary General of the #Commonwealth During the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of State and Government, which concluded on 26 October 2024 in Apia, Samoa, the Commonwealth of Nations selected Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey as the 7th Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
“I would like to congratulate Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana on her selection as the 7th Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. I am confident that Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey will steer the work of the Commonwealth brilliantly and will take our organization to greater heights,” President Mbumba’s post read.
“In the same vein, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Namibia, I wish to thank the Right Honorable Patricia Scotland for the excellent leadership she provided to the Commonwealth during her tenure. I wish Rt Hon Scotland success in her future endeavors,” the President’s Facebook post further read.
