The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has launched an investigation into a shooting that disrupted a New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign rally on Sunday (27 October) in Agona West.
The incident unfolded as supporters of Chris Arthur, an NPP parliamentary hopeful, were heading back from his campaign launch in Otinkorang.
Their path intersected with a rally of supporters of Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, in Agona Nyankrom.
In a statement issued on Monday (28 October) police confirmed that four people sustained injuries during the clash, including Arthur’s campaign manager, Haruna Rashid.
Two victims were treated and discharged, while the remaining two remain in hospital.
Police say they are closing in on the suspected shooter.
“The police have been actively working on the case throughout Sunday night when the incident happened,” the statement read, “and are closing on the perpetrator to get him arrested to face justice.”
The Agona West constituency remains on high alert as investigations continue.
