Ministry of Information is a waste pipe; I’ll scrap it – Alan Kyerematen

Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has indicated that he does not intend to appoint a Minister for Information if made president.

He considers the Ministry as a waste pipe that does not add anything to the government.

Alan Kyerematen made this known during a media encounter to explain his policies and programmes to the good people of Ghana.

The former Trade Minister said, “What does the Ministry of Information do? I’m not interested in a whole ministry talking about government projects and..What does it do? You check all the matured economies, have you heard of any matured economy in the world with a minister of information? No, so it’s a waste pipe, that ministry does not add anything.

I’m sorry all my friends at the Ministry of Information. I will turn all of you into business people and you’ll make more money…The reason why I’m very confident and I talk about these matters is because I’ve been around. In the early 80s, I was the leader of the team that did a major restructuring of the Ministry of Information. I created the new structure of an Information Service Department (ISD).

I remember when I was with MDPI that time we were responsible for major government projects in terms of consulting assignments. I remember it was Totobi Kwakye who took over and I remember he was always commending me for the work that I did in the 80s. When you do good work your record is there. We don’t need the ministry of information, we can save a lot of money and use it to support our government,” he said.
