Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure has opened up about how his family continues to encourage him to leave his kind of journalism.
He says that after his very first investigative piece, his father was contacted to force him to put a stop to the work he does because the kind of people he was going after was dangerous.
What even touched him was when one morning he woke up to his wife grieving that she is too young to be a widow.
“I think things were easier for me when I was alone. Even that my family have some risks to be afraid of. There was a day my wife was weeping and saying that I’m too young to be a widow. It was in the morning. My family wanted me to quit after the very first investigation.
Somebody called my father and told him that well they are doing it but your son the kind of people he’s going after. There have been occasions I ask myself is it worth it? But sometimes you see certain things and you get so outraged about it. I also have this feeling that if we all say we are afraid, we are not going to do anything about our predicament, when the reality hits we don’t know where we will be, all of us will be endangered,” he said.
