Mahama’s answer to BBC on if he’ll sign Anti-LGBTQI bill as president

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama failed to answer a question posed to him by the BBC on whether he will sign the Family Values Bill into law.

There have been calls on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sign the bill into law since it was passed by parliament.

The President is said to have warned against transmitting the bill to his office indicating that the issues are in court and a ruling on the matter can only ensure that he assents the bill into law.

However, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has asked the clerk of Parliament to transmit the bill to the President.

The former President who wants to be president again and has in past insisted that he will not accept homosexuality could not provide a concrete answer when asked if he will sign the popular “Anti Lgbtqi+” bill into law.

He said “It is not called Anti-LGBT Bill, it is called Family Values Bill. The president will have to look through the Bill and outline what he doesn’t like in the bill, take it back to parliament or give it to the Council of State to advise him. I will look through the Bill and see what I don’t like and yes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Family Values Bill has been criticized by Human Rights Organizations in the country and globally.
