Mahama hiding behind Minority in Parliament to evade debate with Bawumia, says Miracles Aboagye

Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama is doing everything possible to evade a debate with the 2024 presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Minority in Parliament has invited Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia to participate in the debate on the Mid-Year Budget Review on Thursday (25 July).

In a press statement, the Minority extended this public invitation to Vice-President Bawumia who serves as the chairman of the government’s economic management team.

“Parliamentary rules permit a sitting vice-president to participate in debates on the floor of the House.”

“Pursuant to the Vice President’s recent call for a debate on the economy, this invitation presents Alhaji Bawumia an excellent opportunity and forum to debate and account for his stewardship over the last seven and a half years as chairman of the Economic Management Team.”

According to the Minority, they have lined up a crack team of highly knowledgeable and competent members to debate Vice-President Bawumia.

However, speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (25 July), Aboagye said the Minority is being dramatic over the issue.

“Mr Mahama is trying too hard to evade this very important exercise of a debate and they are playing too much,  it’s too much drama.”

“I agree monkeys play by size and I agree that is why Bawumia is inviting his size the presidential candidate. Because as a presidential candidate, I believe that we all agree that his size in monkeys will be the presidential candidate of NDC (Mahama) and not surely the Members of Parliament by their analogy.”

“… Today, Dr Mahamudu has met that requirement, he is inviting you to a debate and you are hiding behind the Minority group in Parliament to evade it. It is ok if you don’t want to debate, there is no gun to his head actually to come and debate,” Aboagye said.
