President Akufo-Addo has called on all Ghanaians to commit to playing their part to make the 7 December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections peaceful, free, and fair, while the Electoral Commission (EC), the security services, and the government also do all within their mandate to ensure a smooth electioneering process.
The President made the call in a brief address to the congregation of the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral in Accra after worshipping with them as his first port of call at the beginning of his three-day thank you tour of the Greater Accra Region from Sunday, 1 to Tuesday, 3 December 2024.
“Across the world, when people speak about Africa and democracy, the country that they refer to as the beacon of democratic governance on our continent, they talk about Ghana.
“On Saturday, we are going to get another opportunity, the 9th successive opportunity we have to demonstrate to the world that, indeed, we understand what democratic government is about, that every few years, the people are given the opportunity to decide who will rule and govern them in their name,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“So, that is going to happen again this Saturday. I am appealing to all of you, the Electoral Commission, Security Services, and the government, and have all made arrangements to make sure that everything goes peacefully and properly.
“I am appealing to you to make sure that what happens here next Saturday is indeed peaceful, free, and fair so that at the end of the day on Saturday, all of us will agree that X, you know my X, that X is the one we have all agreed to be our next President,” Akufo-Addo further stated.
Honoured to be President
In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo registered his appreciation to the congregation and to Ghanaians for electing him president nearly 8 years ago and for supporting him throughout his presidency.
“I want to say one’s again that I am really, really grateful, my wife Rebecca, my brother, and all my family are overwhelmed by the love, the affection and the honour that you have done me by making me President of the country,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
