Kumbun Na calls for peaceful campaign between Mahama and Bawumia

As Ghana approaches the much-anticipated presidential election on December 7, the Chief of the Kumbungu Traditional Area, Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II, has expressed satisfaction that the two main candidates are both from northern Ghana.

Former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are not only political figures of national importance but also represent the northern region, an area that has long been striving for equitable development.

In a recent courtesy visit to Dr. Bawumia, Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II emphasized the significance of a peaceful and respectful political atmosphere in the lead-up to the elections. “You and John Mahama are both from the north, and this is a momentous occasion for us,” he remarked.

The chief called for unity and peaceful campaigning, advising Bawumia to view Mahama as a political opponent rather than an enemy. “Mahama is my brother, and I encourage you, Dr. Bawumia, to engage with him as a brother in the spirit of brotherhood, not enmity.”

The chief’s message was clear: although the competition between the two candidates is intense, mutual respect should remain the guiding principle.

Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II urged Bawumia to seek common ground and approach Mahama with a desire for dialogue, should any concerns arise. “It’s important to build bridges, not walls, and to respect each other’s ideas, even when we disagree,” he said.

The chief also reminded Bawumia that the outcome of the election, regardless of which candidate emerges victorious, ultimately reflects the will of Allah.

“Whoever wins this election, it will be a victory for the Northern Region as a whole. We must see it as a collective achievement for all of us,” he affirmed.

In his closing remarks, Alhaji Naa Abu Iddrisu II urged Bawumia to prioritize the development of northern Ghana if he is elected.

He pointed out the region’s persistent challenges, which include poor road infrastructure, limited access to electricity, and the loss of agricultural produce due to inadequate transportation options.

“We cannot keep allowing our people to suffer because of these issues. If you are allowed to lead, ensure that the north sees the progress it has long deserved,” he advised.
