Profile of Acting Managing Director for Ghana Water Company, Adam Mutawakilu

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has appointed Hon. Adam Mutawakilu as the acting managing director of the Ghana Water Company.

His appointment is in line with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

He will act in the position until he is approved by the Board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Here is a brief Profile of the nominee.

Hon. Adam Mutawakilu holds MSc Development Finance from the University of Ghana; MSc Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Studies and has completed his course work for his MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies from the University of Cape Coast in 2022.

Hon Mutawakilu also holds a Commonwealth Executive Masters of Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology; a holder of an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership; and at the first degree level, he bagged BSc Administration (Accounting Option) from the University of Ghana.

Hon. Adam Mutawakilu served as the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency (2013-2020) after the constituency was splitted to carve out the Daboya-Mankarigu Constituency. In Parliament, he served in the Mines and Energy Committee and rose through the ranks to become the Vice Chairman and the Ranking Member of the Committee. Indeed, under his watch as a Ranking Member for the Mines and Energy Committee, he, together with his colleagues on tje Minority side, exposed the botched Ameri Novation Agreement, which eventually caused Hon. Boakye Agyarko his position as the Minister for Energy. He was also a member of the committee of Members Holding Office of Profit.

Hon Garlus served as the District Chief Executive for the West Gonja District between 2009 and 2013. He took the office after working with the University for Development Studies Central Administration as Head of Treasury.

He is a professional teacher with a Science Background. He taught Core Science, Mathematics and Chemistry at Damongo Senior High School from 1996 to 1999 after securing a Teacher Training Certificate “A” from Bagabaga Training College in 1996. He was also engaged by Bagabaga Training College in 1999 to teach Chemistry as a part-time teacher.

Hon. Adam Mutawakilu also had a working experience with the West Gonja District Hospital (then) as a Laboratory Technician.
