Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated GHC200,000 towards the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

This gesture, made through his representative, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, a presidential advisor on health, on Thursday (14 November) aims to support ongoing works at the 70-year-old health facility.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to the project, adding that additional funds will be allocated in the 2025 national budget if he wins the upcoming elections.

“The Vice President believes in the importance of this renovation project and intends to allocate funds for its completion when he becomes President,” Dr. Nsiah-Asare stated during the donation event.

Dr. Nsiah-Asare, who previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, also personally donated GHC50,000 towards the hospital’s renovation.

He highlighted his intimate knowledge of the facility’s needs, gained from his years of experience there, and stressed the urgency of completing the work to make KATH fully functional.

The Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, expressed profound gratitude for the donations, describing them as timely and crucial to accelerating ongoing renovation efforts.

The campaign dubbed, “Heal Komfo Anokye Project” seeks to raise US$10 million in a public fundraising drive spearheaded by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is one of Ghana’s premier healthcare facilities, and the renovation project is expected to enhance its capacity to deliver quality healthcare to the public.
