Justin Kodua’s #RebuildingOurBase Project: The Story So Far

The general secretary for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been engaged in some form of rebuilding after he led the political party into opposition in the 2024 elections.

His rebuilding targets the base of the political party to build from button up.

The General Secretary, who has come under attack for failing the political party believes that rebuilding the political party is the way to build a formidable force ahead of the 2028 elections.

The project dubbed Rebuilding the Base started at the University of Ghana.

Announcing his interaction with student leaders and Tescon members in a post shared via social media, he said “In an effort to reinvigorate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and strengthen its connection with the grassroots, I have commenced the “Rebuilding Our Base” tour at the University of Ghana. This initiative aims to restore the party’s vitality and position it for future electoral success by focusing on its core supporters and ideological foundation.

Accompanying me were key party officials, including Mr. William Yamoah, Director of Finance and Administration; Haruna Mohammad, Deputy General Secretary; Salam Mustapha, National Youth Organizer; Jay Hyde, Deputy National Youth Organizer; Alhaji Osman, Ayawaso West Wuogon Chairman; Dr. Agyanim Boateng, TESCON Patron; Stephen Forson, Deputy Director of IT; and George Krobea Asante, Deputy Communications Director.

The tour reflects a strategic shift towards grassroots action, aimed at rejuvenating the NPP by reconnecting with its historical roots. I recounted the party’s rich heritage, tracing its origins to groups such as the UGCC, NLM, UP, PP, and PFP. I emphasized that these ideologically aligned groups played an integral role in shaping the party’s formation and achievements.

“Rebuilding our base entails reconnecting with our roots, understanding where our support originates, and strengthening the very foundation that has defined the NPP’s success,” I emphasized. I further underscored the party’s renewed dedication to inclusivity, declaring, “The forgotten men and women of NPP will be forgotten no more.”

He took the to Cape Coast and the outcome was “I joined the National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, to engage members of the UCC Friday Club, TESCON executives, and pro-NPP student leaders at the University of Cape Coast as part of the Rebuilding The Base Tour. This initiative is aimed at reenergizing our intellectual base and strategizing on how to recapture lost parliamentary seats, especially those influenced by the UCC community.

Our team included key party figures such as the Director of Finance and Administration, Dr. William Yamoah; Central Regional Youth Organizer, Kenneth Quansah; Central Regional Secretary, Takyi Mensah; Central Regional Treasurer, Francis Asare; Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammad; National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha; Deputy National Youth Organizer, Jay Hyde; Deputy National Organizer, Kwayagya; Cape Coast North Chairman, Stephen Arhin; TESCON Patron, Dr. Justice Addo; and Deputy Communications Director, George Krobea Asante.

During the meeting, I highlighted the upcoming NPP School, which will provide mentorship programs for TESCON and student leaders, preparing them for future leadership roles within the party. I also announced plans to make the TESCON membership card accessible to all interested students, a move designed to enhance participation on campus.

Furthermore, I emphasized our party’s commitment to integrating TESCON members into mainstream communication teams, making membership more attractive while bridging the gap between TESCON and the party’s core structures.

In my closing remarks, I encouraged the students to remain steadfast and committed to the party, declaring, “Together with determination, we shall rise again.”
