In a recent Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on October 1, Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), addressed the ongoing concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding alleged discrepancies in the voter register.
Mensa highlighted that the NDC had previously outlined five categories of issues but has since failed to provide any concrete evidence to support its claims.
“The commission demanded further evidence from the NDC regarding these issues,” Mensa stated. “However, they assured us that such discrepancies are typical of any voter’s register.
The purpose of the exhibition exercise is to unearth and rectify these inconsistencies. Unfortunately, the NDC has not presented any more evidence to the EC.”
This underscores the need for a collaborative approach as various political parties work together to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Mensa further elaborated that the current voter register is not perfect and is still subject to modifications. “This IPAC meeting has been organized to allow all parties to present any evidence regarding discrepancies in the voter register.
It must be noted that the current register is not final,” she emphasized, highlighting the EC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
The NDC had said there were unidentifiable and missing voter data in the provisional register; and illegal voter transfers and was therefore demanding a re-exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register.
