Ghana Music Awards introduces new category celebrating urban gospel music

The organisers of the prestigious Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse, have announced the introduction of a new category for the 2025 edition of the awards.

The newly added category is for the Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song.

The update celebrates the incredible talent and creativity that fuel Ghana’s dynamic music industry.

The Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category will be awarded to the song that is adjudged by the Academy, Board, and the General Public as the most popular urban/contemporary gospel song of the year.

The category is designed to acknowledge music that combines traditional gospel with elements of R&B, hip hop, and other pop genres.

To qualify, the song must have been commercially released in the year under review and must have generated the most public excitement, enjoying significant patronage.

The eligibility for this category is restricted to songs performed by gospel artistes only.

With this new category, Charterhouse aims to recognise and celebrate the evolution of gospel music in Ghana, highlighting the growing trend of artists blending gospel with contemporary urban music.

The countdown to the call for entries for the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards has already begun, building anticipation within the music community.
