I had cesarean section prior to attempting the record, says GWR holder

Certified loctician and Guiness World Record holder, Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah, has revealed that she would have attempted to lock my hairs but was exhausted after undergoing a caesarean section prior to breaking the previous record.

On 6 March 2024, at Ashongman Estate in Accra, Ansah achieved the remarkable feat of locking 27 heads of hair in just eight hours.

Speaking on Asaase’s Artsy on Saturday (14 September) Ansah said, “Actually, I wanted to do 30 but because I had an issue, I was really suffering at it as a point because I had CS.”

“I didn’t finish within that eight hours. I stopped around seven hours 51 minutes and six seconds,” she added.

Owusu Ansah noted that setting a new Guinness World Record for the most hair locked in a single session is the second greatest achievement of her life.

“I’m able to achieve something in my life after family. Having a child is not easy. This is the second biggest achievement I have had in my life and I’m grateful.”

Ansah, however, added that she intends to set a new record that no one can break.

“I’ve been working as a loctician for six years now and so it’s something I didn’t really have any problem with attempting.

According to the new GWR holder, despite only receiving support from friends and family during her attempt, she is proud of her accomplishment.

“The only thing that was making me feel disappointed was me looking at the people and then it was just a few people around. It was just my family and then my friends, like no one was there. The place was empty.

“No one was there. So it was, I feel like five hours through the line and I realised people were coming around.”

The entire event at the blue kiosk in Ashongman Estate, Accra, attracted several eyeballs within the community, amongst industry players, and curious onlookers.

“No, I did it in front of my shop,” she said.
