Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has extended his gratitude to President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for nominating him as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
The nomination, which came after consultations with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marks a significant moment in Bagbin’s political journey, having previously served in the same role during the 8th Parliament.
“I extend my profound gratitude to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the honour and trust he has, in consultation with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), placed in me by the decision that I be nominated to be elected as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana,” Bagbin said, emphasizing his deep sense of responsibility.
He further acknowledged the importance of the task ahead, stating, “This is both a profound privilege and an onerous responsibility.
A responsibility that I do not take lightly.” Bagbin made it clear that his work would not deviate from the values of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law that have guided his years of service. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding these principles, adding that the integrity of the Parliament and the people it serves will always be at the forefront of his leadership.
“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey,” he added, highlighting the critical role of Parliament in Ghana’s democratic development.
Bagbin, whose dedication to Parliament has been well recognized, expressed his intention to continue working towards strengthening democratic institutions in Ghana. He promised that under his leadership, the Ninth Parliament will operate with the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.
The Speaker-elect’s message also carried a tone of gratitude for the NDC leadership, saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to assure the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the people of Ghana that I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people.”
