Ghana Athletics has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for 2025, setting the stage for an exhilarating year of competitions both locally and internationally.
The season kicks off on 1 February with the Mountain and Trail Run at the scenic Aburi Mountain, setting a high-energy tone for what promises to be a packed calendar.
This will be followed by the Paa Willie Athletic Championship in Accra on 8 February, drawing athletes and fans to the capital for an electrifying showdown.
February rounds out with two major events: the Kumasi Open Championship and the ISSAG Athletic Competition, ensuring a strong start to the year.
March ushers in Ghana Athletics’ first international outing of the year. Athletes will head to Nanjing, China, for the World Indoor Championships, scheduled from 21-23 March.
But before that, local competitions will keep the momentum alive, including the GIS Festival in Borteyman, the GAF Open Championship in Accra, and the Volta Athletic Championship.
April’s line-up begins with the Cape Coast Open Championship, a favourite on the athletic calendar.
The coastal city will also host the GA/GES School Sports, a key event for unearthing young talent.
The month ends on a high note with two marquee events: the Penn Relays Championship in the United States, where Ghanaian athletes will compete on the global stage, and the Osimpam Marathon in Winneba, a celebration of endurance and community spirit.
In May, attention shifts to Guangzhou, China, for the World Relays Championships, a highly anticipated event on the global athletics circuit.
Domestically, the Accra Open Championship will keep the local athletics community buzzing.
July’s highlight is the African U18/U20 Championship in Algeria, where young Ghanaian athletes will compete against the continent’s best.
August is reserved for the National Championships in Accra, a pivotal event for crowning national champions and preparing for international competitions.
September brings the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, a landmark event where Ghana will aim to leave its mark.
Back home, the KGL Millennium Marathon will offer a platform for local and international runners to showcase their stamina.
October marks the grand finale of Ghana Athletics’ 2025 season. The GA SESSA Athletic Championship, the FNB Accra Marathon, and the Run for a Cure Ghana event promise a thrilling end to the year.
Additionally, several events with dates yet to be confirmed add to the excitement.
These include the Region II Championships in Nigeria, the Five Nations Championship in Burkina Faso, and the Junior Olympics, offering more opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to shine.
With this comprehensive roadmap, Ghana Athletics is poised to make 2025 a defining year for the sport, showcasing talent, fostering community engagement, and cementing its place on the global stage.
