Free SHS Review: Parents who can pay will be made to make payments – Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George has indicated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama will review the Free SHS policy to make it better.

In the review, Sam George indicated that parents who can pay will be made to make some payments while the government will absorb tuition fees for students in the various senior high schools.

Sam George who was speaking on Accra-based Gh One Television said “A child has sat in basic school from Montessori all the way to JHS and this child’s parents have paid in dollars and when they enter government school,

this child becomes impoverished that the government needs to bear the full cost, absolutely not. we need to rationalize it and ensure that those who are willing and capable of paying will bear the cost while the state is in the position to absorb the cost of tuition”.

President John Dramani Mahama has said that if voted to power he will not cancel the Free SHS policy like the NPP has made Ghanaians believe.

He indicated that he can never be against a policy that will ensure that education is made accessible to all Ghanaians with quality assured. His challenge has been with the implementation of the policy by the current government.
