EC Ready to ensure free and fair elections – EC Official, Mrs Kim-Louise Aidoo

With Ghana’s elections just hours away, Mrs. Kim-Louise Yeboah Aidoo, District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) for Afigya Kwabre South, made a timely appearance on the Asetena Pa YouTube show hosted by Akoto Mansa.

Her mission is to educate the electorate, particularly first-time voters, on the voting process and ensure they exercise their franchise without errors.

In the conversation, Mrs. Aidoo demystified the voting procedure, offering a step-by-step guide for the public.

“All voters need to do is join the queue at their designated polling station and follow the instructions given by the polling agents present,” she explained. According to her, the EC staff are fully trained to assist voters and ensure a smooth process.

Addressing a crucial aspect of voter eligibility, Mrs. Aidoo stressed the importance of having a valid ID card and confirming one’s name on the electoral register.

“These two elements—your ID card and your name on the register—are your tickets to vote in both the parliamentary and presidential elections, which are conducted consecutively,” she stated.

Mrs. Aidoo also elaborated on the critical role of the Name Reference Officer, the official who verifies a voter’s details against the register.

“This verification step is what starts the voting process, and it’s vital to ensure that everything runs smoothly,” she added.

Her appearance on Asetena Pa comes at a crucial time when voter education is key to reducing invalid votes and ensuring a credible electoral process.

By focusing on the basics, she aimed to eliminate confusion and empower citizens to participate fully in the democratic process.
