Dr. Gideon Boako has raised serious concerns about the fairness and transparency of the recent ministerial vetting process, accusing Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, of obstructing a thorough evaluation of the nominees.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Boako claimed that key procedural norms were disregarded, undermining the integrity of the vetting exercise.

“The committee members were not provided with the CVs of the nominees at the outset,” Dr. Boako revealed.

“This is a departure from convention, and it hindered the ability of members to adequately prepare for the vetting process.”

While the CVs were eventually made available after protests by some committee members, Dr. Boako alleged that Chairman Ahiafor actively stifled efforts to thoroughly scrutinize the documents.

“Even when the CVs were released, the chairman made it difficult for us to properly examine them. It seemed like a deliberate move to push the nominees through without adequate questioning,” he remarked.

Dr. Boako’s allegations come in the wake of heightened public interest in the vetting process, as the nominees, designated for key portfolios in Finance, Energy, and Justice, face significant challenges in their respective fields.

The vetting process is seen as a critical step in ensuring that only qualified and capable individuals are entrusted with these important roles.

“Ghanaians deserved a rigorous vetting process,” Dr. Boako stated. “The chairman’s actions deprived both the minority and the citizens of an opportunity to fully assess the nominees’ competence and suitability for these positions.”
