President Member for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, has blamed Members of Parliament in the Kumasi for the darkness at night.
He alleges that Members of Parliament in the region have taken receipt of bulbs for onward distribution to Assembly members.
However, the Members of Parliament have hoarded the bulbs for reasons best known to them.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Ezra Radio, which MyNewsGh.com monitored, Patrick Kwame Frimpong said, “Our MPs have taken receipt of bulbs for streetlights. However, they have decided to keep them while our streets are left dark at night.
I don’t know why they are doing this. These are some of the challenges the Assembly has. From the Airport roundabout to the Suame roundabout, it has also affected our lighting system in Kumasi.
The situation was not like this under Kuffour and Atta Mills, but John Mahama and Akufo-Addo who decided to give bulbs to MPs caused this problem. So if an MP loses primaries, he keeps the bulbs. I believe that the assemblies should give these bulbs,” he said in the interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
