Daniel Otting Awuah was officially sworn in as the President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana School of Law for the 2024-2025 academic year.
He was sworn in alongside the following executive members; Maxwell Adu Takyi, Gimpa Campus Vice President, Samuel Gyekye-Fosu; UPSA Campus Vice President, Collins Agyemang, Kumasi Campus Vice President, Nana Yaa Siawaah Attafuah, General Secretary, Bright Kofi Abotsi, Treasurer; and Felix O. Marfo, Organiser.
During his inaugural address, at a ceremony marked by both tradition and forward-looking aspirations, Awuah emphasized the collective effort that led to his election and reiterated his commitment to addressing the pressing concerns of the student body.
Awuah, who previously served as the 2017/2018 SRC President at the University of Ghana, highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in his leadership approach.
He stated, “The election that brought myself and this group of executives was not one that was about people or teams, but it was one for a common goal and vision to address the problems that unite us as students.”
Acknowledging the responsibilities ahead, Awuah outlined several key areas where improvements are needed, including the enhancement of teaching and learning conditions through better internet connectivity, improved library resources, international academic opportunities for students and more sanitary facilities.
He also called for the modernization of the SRC’s digital presence, proposing the creation of a functional website and mobile application to better serve the student community.
Awuah praised the outgoing administration, led by Gertrude Emefa Donkor, for their service and expressed gratitude towards all those who participated in the electoral process.
He extended an olive branch to those who contested against him, emphasising the importance of collaboration in achieving the SRC’s goals.
Concluding his speech, Awuah appealed to the broader law school community, including management and stakeholders, to support his administration’s efforts to elevate the Ghana School of Law’s status as a leading institution for legal education.
“With each step forward together, we can make a larger impact and create a ripple effect that extends far beyond what we thought possible,” he declared.
The ceremony marked a peaceful transition of power, signifying a renewal of leadership dedicated to the welfare and advancement of the student body.
As Awuah takes on this new role, students and staff alike anticipate significant strides towards a more inclusive, efficient, and student-centered SRC administration.
