Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended his congratulations to John Dramani Mahama following his election as President-elect of the 4th Republic of Ghana in the 2024 December polls.
In his message, President Xi Jinping said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Ghana relations, as Ghana is one of the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China.
Xi Jinping emphasised that the friendship between China and Ghana has a long and rich history that has deepened over the years.
He added that he stands ready to work with the president-elect to deepen the political mutual trust between Ghana and China and promote a China-Ghana strategic partnership to bring more benefits to both parties.
China and Ghana established diplomatic relations shortly after becoming a republic in 1960. Ghana has since provided substantial diplomatic support to the PRC, with the PRC reciprocating with material support for Ghana’s development.
