Chinese community and UNESCO donate GHC450k to brighten lives of HIV orphans

The Chinese community in Ghana, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Ghana, has donated items worth GHC450,000 to the Motherly Love Orphanage in Accra.

This facility, which supports HIV-positive orphans who have lost their parents to the virus, received an array of essential supplies to improve the lives of its residents.

The generous donation is part of the “Love in Action” charity project, a collaborative effort between the Chinese community in Ghana, UNESCO Ghana, and a team of Chinese medical professionals.

The initiative aims to enhance the children’s health and education, uplift their living conditions, and provide them with a chance to embrace a brighter future.

Among the donated items are medical supplies, educational materials, a refrigerator and chest freezer, a 55-inch television, computers, and food items, including 10 bags of rice, 10 boxes of cooking oil, biscuits, drinks, and nutritional supplements.

Additionally, the orphanage received clothing, 70 mattresses, and 30 boxes each of laundry detergent, soap, wipes, and sanitary pads.

To further support the facility, a check for GHC75,000 was presented to assist with its upkeep over the next year.

The project’s impact extended beyond material donations. Portions of the orphanage, which had deteriorated over the years, were renovated, giving the home a much-needed facelift.

The medical team also conducted health screenings for the children and performed hernia surgeries for two orphans.

Established 16 years ago, the Motherly Love Orphanage provides a safe and nurturing environment for children affected by HIV.

Its work has been bolstered by the “Love in Action” project, which has demonstrated the power of international collaboration in transforming lives.
