Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Acting Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), has expressed concern over the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), stating that it negatively impacts the country’s tertiary education system.
Members of CETAG from all 46 Colleges of Education nationwide have been on strike since June 14. The strike is a result of the government’s refusal to implement their arbitral award and conditions of service, leading to students from various schools vacating the campuses.
In a conversation with Umaru Sanda Amadu on the ‘Face to Face‘ programme on Channel One TV, Prof Abdulai stated that “This continual strike by CETAG does not augur well for the educational tertiary architecture that we hope for.”
The Acting Director General of GTEC appealed to CETAG to reconsider their decision to strike, as it diminishes the appeal of the institutions.
“I will plead with them that look we cannot continue to bastardise our institutions in this manner of continual perennial strikes because the more you go on strike the more you make your institutions unattractive,” he articulated.
