The Vice-President, Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to prioritise the welfare of the youth as his central focus if elected to be president.
he will do this by generating adequate investment in the Youth Employment Agency.
He reiterated his commitment to assisting young people in any way he could to combat the threat of unemployment.
Speaking at the passing out ceremony of 10,000 trainees under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) on Tuesday 27 August 2024 in the Bono Region, the presidential candidate of the NPP said, “God willing, when I become president, I will fully support the YEA a lot more (with) massive investment in YEA. Because they need to expand their initiatives to benefit many more youth who can work for the government.”
The event marks a significant milestone in the agency’s efforts to equip Ghanaian youth with employable skills and contribute to reduction of unemployment in the country. Additionally, there was a distribution of starter packs to graduates.
This will enable them to establish their own business and contribute to the economy.
GHartisan APP
As part of the incentives provided for the beneficiaries, the YEA will be launching the GHartisan app. This is an innovative online platform where the profiles of all trained artisans will be listed and connect them to customers across the country.
“Next month, the YEA will be launching an app called GHartisan app. I look forward to see the operation of this app because I believe it will really be of great benefit to you all (trainees).” Dr. Bawumia said.
Investment in Vocational and Technical Education
The Vice President also revealed that the Government has spent over Ghc6 billion on vocational and technical training education for the past seven years.
“Aside from Free SHS, we have also made Vocational and Technical education free which also forms part of entrepreneurial training for the youth. We have invested Ghc6 billion over the last seven years for vocational and technical education.”
The YEA is also planning to train another set of 10,000 youth who aspire to learn a trade of their choice in the coming months.
